Taipei welcomes a new address for design and dining

Taipei has a new luxury hotel to consider for a city break. IHG announced the opening of InterContinental Taipei on 12 October, bringing 347 rooms to the Taipei Dome complex in Xinyi District. The appeal combines a contemporary base with a strong emphasis on food and the character of the city.
A stay with room to settle in
The hotel includes seven dining concepts, with restaurants led by chef Akira Back, plus an indoor pool and fitness centre. Selected rooms look towards Taipei 101. Residential-style suites add a kitchen, dining space and in-suite laundry, a potentially useful combination for travellers who prefer a longer stay.
Design that looks to the city
IHG describes interiors informed by Taipei’s architecture and cultural memory, including references to old Taipei and musical motifs in event spaces. The result is positioned as a hotel connected to its surroundings, with leisure, dining and entertainment close to the centre of its proposition.
Make the hotel part of a varied itinerary
For a first visit, our approach would be to leave room for both planned meals and spontaneous discoveries. Select a room for how you will use it, rather than assuming every category has the same skyline view or facilities. If a particular restaurant is the reason for the stay, confirm its opening hours and reservation arrangements separately. A good city hotel should support the days outside it as well as the evenings spent within.
