Privacy information

BEST TRAVELS publishes travel news, destination features and practical guides at besttravels.net. This page explains how information is used when you browse the website and the choices available in your browser.

Browsing the website

Your browser sends technical information needed to request and display pages, including your IP address and information about the request. The hosting server keeps access and error logs for website operation and security. These logs are separate from optional analytics; declining analytics does not switch them off.

The website does not provide customer accounts or accept travel bookings or payments. The newsletter form is currently disabled and does not collect subscriptions.

Your language and analytics choices

When you choose a language, the website saves that preference in your browser and uses it on later visits. The preference has no automatic expiry set by the website. You can change it using the language selector or remove it by clearing the website's stored browser data. The language selector does not infer your location.

The website also saves your analytics choice and when you made it. That choice is recognised for 180 days, after which the website asks again. The stored record can remain in your browser until replaced or cleared. This preference storage is separate from Google Analytics cookies.

Optional Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 starts only after you accept analytics. It helps measure visits and how readers use the publication. When it loads, your browser communicates with Google and may use analytics cookies and identifiers. Google receives technical information, including your IP address and information about the pages visited. Analytics is not described as anonymous.

The website's configured page-address field excludes the query string and fragment, and its configured referrer field contains only the referring site's origin. Google Signals and advertising personalisation signals are disabled in the website's analytics configuration. These settings reduce certain uses and disclosures; they do not prevent all processing by Google.

You can read the website without accepting analytics. Open the Cookies page to change your choice. Declining analytics stops future collection through this website in that browser. It does not automatically delete information already received by Google. Choices apply separately to each browser and device.

Google explains its processing here:

Browser storage and server records

You can remove website cookies and stored preferences through your browser settings. Doing so may reset your language and analytics choices. Removing browser data does not delete server logs or information already received by Google.

The hosting configuration rotates access and error logs daily and retains 14 rotated log files. This describes the log rotation setting, rather than a guarantee that every copy is deleted after exactly 14 days.

Links to travel providers, tourism bodies and other sources open separate services. Their privacy information applies to what happens on their websites. Check it before sharing information or making a booking there.
