New York: the skyline opens up from Brooklyn

Manhattan can feel like a city of fragments when you are standing between its towers. Across the East River, those fragments fall into place. From Brooklyn’s waterfront, the bridges and skyline become a broad composition, with boats and changing light keeping it in motion.
Brooklyn Bridge Park brings that view into a public landscape of piers, gardens and places to pause. Its official map connects areas including Fulton Ferry Landing, Main Street and Pier 1. Choose a stretch that appeals to you and let the water, rather than a list of landmarks, guide the outing.
Look back towards the bridge from more than one position. The stone towers, cables and buildings change their relationship surprisingly quickly as you walk. Leave time to sit as well as photograph: part of the pleasure is watching an intensely busy city from somewhere with a little breathing room.
This is a different New York from the familiar street-level rush. It works as a substantial part of a day, not merely a stop on the way across the bridge. Check the park’s current notices and map before choosing your route.
