Columbus to gain a direct Frankfurt flight

A new Lufthansa service is set to connect John Glenn Columbus International Airport with Frankfurt from May 2027. The Columbus Regional Airport Authority says the route will be the first nonstop link from Central Ohio to Europe and Ohio’s first nonstop service to Germany. For travellers, the change means a direct overnight crossing to a major European hub, with onward connections beyond Germany.
Three flights each week
The airport authority says the route is planned to operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departures from Columbus are scheduled for 4:20 p.m., with arrival in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. the following day, using local times. The service is due to begin in May 2027; the published schedule may change before launch.
A new gateway for Ohio
Frankfurt is Lufthansa’s main hub and offers onward connections across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. A nonstop flight can remove a connection on the transatlantic leg for people starting in Columbus, although the best onward itinerary will depend on destination, date and the final timetable.
What is announced about the aircraft
Lufthansa plans to use a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 287 seats: 28 lie-flat business-class seats, 28 in premium economy and 231 in economy. The airport authority says the aircraft is expected to feature Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin. Cabin configuration and seat availability can vary by flight.
Booking and planning
The airport authority announced that bookings would open on 20 October 2026. Travellers should check Lufthansa’s live booking system for the route, operating dates, fares, baggage rules and connection times before making plans. The announcement does not guarantee that every date or cabin will be available.
Why the route matters
The service adds a direct European option to Columbus’s air network and gives visitors another way to reach central Ohio. Its three-times-weekly pattern makes checking exact departure days especially important when planning a short break or a connecting journey.
