Budapest: see both sides of the Danube

The Danube is more than a route through Budapest. It separates Buda and Pest while giving the city a shared stage, with hills, bridges and monumental buildings changing their relationship as you move between the banks.
Hungary’s tourism office identifies the riverfront as central to the capital’s character and World Heritage setting. A walk that looks across the water can therefore be as rewarding as standing directly beside a famous building.
Choose a short section on one bank and a second viewpoint on the other, with time for a pause between them. If you add a boat trip, check its actual route and departure arrangements rather than choosing only by a promotional photograph. You do not need a full sightseeing circuit to appreciate the scale of the river. Sometimes a few well-chosen perspectives are enough.
